During these cold winter months, we want to embrace as much of the warm sunlight as we can. But opening those window shades to bring in the sunlight damages your furnishings as much as the summer sun. Fabrics, artwork, wood floors and other valuables will fade when unfiltered sun shines through your windows. Fading is caused by a combination of ultraviolet rays, visible light and solar heat. So how do you enjoy the sunlight and protect your home from the sun's damaging rays? "The solution is window tinting", says Bob Swartley, owner of Tint-Pro in Collegeville. "By adding film on your windows, you can keep the shades open and enjoy direct sunlight without the damaging effects." Tint-Pro has been installing 3M window films in homes and commercial properties for more than two decades, primarily to reduce glare and for increased fade protection. SCOTCHTINT(tm) Fade Reducing Films by 3M have been found to block 99% of the UV light generated from the sun. They can also reduce the effects of annoying sun glare. "Although the films will not prevent absolute fading", Swartley points out, "they will prolong the life of fabrics and furnishings by as much as two to five times."
With window tinting, you can choose different degrees of light transmission. For instance, you may want a very light film on East facing windows for fade protection and choose a film that is darker for the doors by your kitchen table for glare reduction. Whichever tint you choose, none of these protective films will darken a room or take away from the appearance of your home. In fact, it is almost impossible to tell that a window has been tinted.
You have invested a lot of time and money to make your home beautiful and inviting. Now you can make sure it stays that way. Protect your fine furnishings with window film that make natural light a beautiful and welcome addition to your home.
