One of my favorite places to visit during the summer, or anytime for that matter, is the tiny town of Lewes, Delaware. And as soon as I arrive at the main shopping street, I am immediately drawn to Twila Farrell's shop. Stepping into this hip and cozy boutique is a treat to your fashion senses - a place to shop for what you want; not what you need.
Some of you may remember that Twila owned a shop in Media in the 1980's. During a vacation in Lewes in 1989, she fell in love with this charming town and decided to open a small shop on Second Street. A few years later, Twila and her daughter-in-law, Sandy, took their shared love of fashion to the next step by upgrading to a larger 3000 sq. ft. store.
Sandy, who oversees the buying for the shop, says, "Twila Farrell's is a reflection of our philosophy that fashion should be fun. We like to fill the shop with interesting and unique items that we like but also meet the needs of our customers". And they have done just that. The racks are filled with trendy treats for women of any age who want to look casual yet put-together; elegant and stylish. As Twila says, "we cater to the young contemporary as well as the young at heart." On any given day, you can find beautiful Skovhuus and Christine Alexander sweaters beckoning from the open shelves and sleek Barbara Lesser, Canvas Back and Nomadic Traders fashions hanging on the racks. If you need to stay warm on a chilly evening, they offer fashion outerwear with a twist like Painted Pony jackets and Venesha angora coats. Looking for fabulous shoes? Check out their Naot and Pikolinos.
Accessories at Twila Farrell are the icing on the cake. Interesting and eye-appealing scarves, belts and hats are found throughout the store. Delicate drop earrings from Camenae, silver bracelets by Judith Jack and eclectic necklaces by Desert Heart sparkle in their cases. Any of these handcrafted pieces would be a wonderful addition to your
collection.
Twila Farrell is open all year except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. So when you are in Lewes, stop by to see Twila and Sandy - and maybe do a little shopping. They love to see new faces and old friends from Pennsylvania any time of the year.
