There's a lot of buzz in the neighborhood about this new, trendy restaurant in Worcester, Montgomery County. Those who have visited the restaurant are giving it rave reviews. The rest are looking forward to the experience. We were lucky enough to have dinner there on a Tuesday night. We were pleasantly surprised to see that every table was filled and everyone seemed to be enjoying great conversation and exceptional food. Zacharias Creek Side Café, named after the creek that runs along the back of the property, is the vision of Andrew & Nancy Gallo and Andy & Marlene Singer. The Gallos own and operate A Gallo Affair Catering and the Singers founded the successful Twin Bays Café in Phoenixville. So these are partners with the experience and foresight to offer an exceptional dining experience.
The Café is comfortable and casual with contemporary artful walls of texture, created by David Bruce Michener. Within the Café is a bakery with delicious offerings created by Chef James Matty, formerly of Brasserie Perrier and georges' in Philadelphia.
Chefs Cindy Coll and Anthony Boccella are turning out New American dishes that are all about freshness and flavor. To start, we had one of the seasonal soups, a rich Chicken Vegetable Couscous which was thick and flavorful; just right for a cold evening. The Roasted Onion Soup is made with Provencal apples and onions offering a delicious pairing and served with herb crostini and shaved parmasan. We had heard about the Seared Jumbo Scallops so our group tried them as an Appetizer and an Entrée. The Appetizer portion is served with a porcini dust, sweet pea hummus and forest mushroom saute. The entrée is complemented with artichokes, olives, tomatoes, white wine, garlic and saffron rice. The scallops are large, ocean-plump and browned to perfection. The Café also offers a wonderful traditional Caesar Salad with oven roasted tomato, toasted crostini and a lemon-anchovy dressing. For entrees, we selected one of the nightly specials which was a Wild Boar Chop served with wilted rainbow chard and chestnut wild rice with a roasted garlic Rosemary Demi. Served medium, this was a tender and delicious rare treat. If you like pasta, the Lobster Tortelloni is a must. Large Tortelloni are filled with lobster and served with a heavenly lemon-herb pesto sauce. We also had a Grilled Filet, which was a 9oz. center cut with a Pinot Noir-thyme reduction and was accompanied by heart warming truffle Yukon Gold smashed potatoes.
Desserts were just as incredible as the meal with a choice of Crème Brulee, Flourless Chocolate Cake, Peanut Butter Chocolate Ganache, Homemade Cookies and more. Combined with an Espresso or Coffee, it is the perfect ending to this dining experience.
Visit this restaurant soon and you will be offering your own rave reviews. The Café is open Tues-Fri for lunch and dinner and Sat for dinner only. Don't forget to bring your favorite wine to enjoy with your meal.
